I am an advocate of great design and accessibility in everything to do with the web and believe that great web sites need simplicity at their core in both design and function. Oh and a little in ♥ with Apple and Google.

Google +1 wants your website
Hot on the heels of +1 for social search Google has put up a teaser page for +1'ing your site. Go get on the lost and lets see if they have cracked it!
Unresponsive Macbook AIR 13" - iTunes to blame apparently
This is the understatement of the year from Apple on their hardware.
"This update addresses an issue that makes the system unresponsive when using iTunes."
I have had the AIR for about 3 months and have been loving it, but it started to totally freezing up on me about 3 days ago and I have been feeling the heat from those unconverted ones. I never restart but have been forced to 3 times in 2 days, I thought it was the wooosh. As it is the only now pure mac piece of software on it. I was wrong. A measly 461k firmware upgrade and the problem has been resolved!
Thanks Apple.
Google +1 = Facebook Like?
Well Google is starting to show it's hand in combating the onslaught of Facebook they just introduced +1 - it is still experimental - but it is a start. I signed up and tried a few searches but nothing really worth saying yet. I hope for Google's sake that this is easier for sites to implement than open social, because only mass adoption and quick adoption will make this work for them. Will Facebook lose sleep over it, I doubt it (for now).
But change is coming to Google and for a company of its size, it is coming quickly and they bought themselves some time to play around in this space.
Facebook deleted me! - update
What happened here! Looks like facebook deleted me. How does it make me feel? Relieved really.
But I am sure there is a tape backup there somewhere.
The rest of the web is OK.
My Google profile for example ;)
Update: Ahh - it looks like a caching issue in Chrome. Oh well at least I now know that if it disappeared my life would not end. ;)
New challenges . . . trillions of them?
I moved job recently. Was it a good move? Absolutely. Was it the right time? Yes. Does it have challenges? Oh yes! Am I excited by it? More than anything else before, Yes.
So what is it? Well that is the difficult thing about it, once again I find myself doing something that is very difficult to describe to anyone in a simple sentence. My last few jobs, I relied on something that was written by someone way smarter than me Josh Klein, who summed it up I think perfectly, "I’m a web strategist. My job is to make websites worth caring about."
So does that still hold true for my new position? Yes absolutely, but the great thing about what I am now doing is I am not making it better you or me, but for people who probably have never experienced the web as we know it. So I am hopeful that I will have learnt from the past and be wary of the hype of the here and now and be able to give people what they deserve and need.
Things are different now though, we have things like IPv6 to think about. Yes it is a technology not a data point. But just how are IPv6 (and others) going to shape how we fashion our way forward? I don't know! I don't think anyone really knows the impact.
But in trying to find out I plan to add a bit more focus over the coming months to that definition coined by Josh Klein.
"I’m a web strategist. My job is to make websites worth caring about", that make a positive daily impact on peoples lives.
